The Cooperative Republic of Guyana celebrates Independence Day on the 26th of May, every year.
This holiday commemorates the anniversary of Guyana’s independence from the United Kingdom on the 26th of May in 1966, after being ruled by the British for one hundred and fifty-two (152) years.
Although the British were the last set of Europeans to govern Guyana, our culture is a mix of the diverse ethnic groups that came to our country. As a result, the celebration of Independence Day reflects our rich history and dynamic culture.
Happy 56th Independence Day Guyana!
